Dr. Feng He vistsited Dr. Yanyan Zhang's lab and give a talk on Engineering Special Seminar about The Geochemistry of Zero Valent Iron and Its Application in Environmental Remediation.

Feng He is a professor of environmental science and engineering at Jiangnan University in Wuxi, China. He held a same position at Zhejiang University of Technology in Hangzhou, China from 2014 to 2022. Before moving back to China, he was a Research Scientist (PI) in Oak Rideg National Laboratory, U.S. His research interests include Environmental Nanotechnology, and Environmental Remediation. Specific research areas include non-metal modification (e.g., sulfidation, nitridation etc.) of zero-valent iron for contaminant transformation, engineered nanoparticles for environmental remediation and sustainable agriculture, and environmental implication of nanomaterials. His research is supported by National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars and National Key R&D Program of China.

Abstract:

This talk focus on how the interaction between zero-valent iron (ZVI) and sulfur species affects the corrosion of ZVI and dechlorination of chlorinated hydrocarbons, and how the mechanism can be borrowed to develop highly efficient materials for remediating contaminated soil and groundwater.
